March 31st

Dear Diary,

Everyday my annoying sister pokes me. I can't wait to go into a chrysalis and get away from her!

My brother came out of his chrysalis today. He is so grown up!! He is glad to see that I am still writing this diary. We took him to see our brother who dropped. He was really upset and so guilty. I feel sorry for him.

GUESS WHAT!! Brother promises that as soon as he finds a wife he will bring her back here and get her to lay her eggs! I am nearly done with this lame diary!! Whoopee!

March 28th

Dear Diary,

I "accidentally" lost my diary the other day .

On Sunday the Easter Butterfly came. I got a delicious leaf egg. Now I am really fat, I think I might turn into a chrysalis soon.

We went to check on my brother that dropped. Mum took one look and started crying. I didn't want to go look but felt that I had to for my brother's sake. As soon as I looked I wished I hadn't. He was all shrivelled up and dried. He had an expressionless face. It was really scary. When my other brother comes out he is going to feel really guilty.

March 19th

Dear Diary,

I am very hounoured to receive this stupid diary. I hate writing diaries! It is especially hard since I have no thumbs. I'm only writing because my brother gave it to me. He is in his chrysalis, and Mum said I should write in it to be polite.

Today my cousin came out of his chrysalis. He won't talk to us, he thinks he's too posh. I feel insulted. I'm hungry. I will go ask Mum to make some leaf cake. I still hate writing diaries. I can't wait until I can pass it on. I hope I'm not a late developer like my brother.

March 18th

Dear Diary,

Finally my time has come to enter my chrysalis. It will take me 10 days to complete my metamorphosis, and a few more to hatch out. After 7 days the colors of my chrysalis will change and the dark orange and black of my wings will begin to show. When I hatch out, I will be able to lay my eggs, and my children may acquire this very diary. I am extremely excited to be on my way to adulthood.

I will entrust this diary to my younger sister to look after for her nieces and nephews. With any luck she will write about all the events happening in our forest and (hopefully) about my progress in the chrysalis.

March 17th

Dear Diary,

A forest moved in today. Lots of food!!! Yay! Oh, and friends too. Whoopdeedoo. I hope the new friends don't eat my leaf like I ate my brother's. (BTW, he still won't talk to me). My mum found out. I don't even want to talk about that.

Mum made her famous leaf cake today and we took it to the new arrivals. I think they liked it.

I am missing all my friends who have gone into chrysali. Why am I such a late developer?! Maybe I should eat more.

March 14th

Dear Diary,

This morning I was rudely awoken by some moron screaming in my ear. I think I have gone deaf now. I tried to look fierce to scare it away but I don't think it saw me.

Also, I think I killed my brother. He is in a chrysalis and I didn't exactly know he was hanging on the leaf I ate until it was too late. Now he won't talk to me. I feel very bad though I am hoping my brother will still emerge. I am not having a very good day.

A Caterpillar's Diary

In Room 16 we have been keeping caterpillars. We have also been learning about diaries. So we have decided to keep a caterpillar's diary. Keep checking to see how the caterpillars are getting on.
